Our Story

Built for patients who want more than a quick prescription.

ClearView Eye Care & Optical opened in Tucson in 2018 with a straightforward premise: most optometry practices were designed around throughput, not care. Patients came in, got a prescription updated, and left without understanding what was happening inside their eyes. We wanted to change that.

Dr. Rachel Kim designed the practice around extended appointment times, in-depth consultations, and technology that lets patients actually see what the doctor sees - retinal photos, anterior segment imaging, and meibography for dry eye assessment are all part of our standard workflow.

Today, ClearView serves more than 2,400 active patients across Tucson, Marana, and the greater Tucson metro. We have a full optical dispensary on-site with over 1,200 frames and an in-house lab capable of same-day lens fabrication for most prescriptions.

Meet Your Optometrists

Dr. Rachel Kim, OD

Lead Optometrist & Dry Eye Specialist · Founder

Dr. Kim earned her Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry, graduating with distinction. She completed a one-year residency in cornea and contact lens management at the Southern California College of Optometry before joining a Tucson group practice.

After a decade in private practice, she founded ClearView in 2018 with a clear mission: provide dry eye patients and contact lens wearers the level of diagnostic sophistication they had been missing. She is certified in LipiFlow thermal pulsation therapy and BlephEx lid hygiene treatment and has spoken at regional optometry conferences on meibomian gland dysfunction.

Dr. Kim is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Arizona Optometric Association. She sees patients Monday through Friday.

Dr. James Patel, OD, FAAO

Optometrist - Pediatric Vision & Low Vision Rehabilitation

Dr. Patel received his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry, graduating with honors. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) - a designation earned through demonstrated clinical expertise and peer-reviewed contribution to the field.

His clinical focus is pediatric vision therapy, myopia management in children, and low vision rehabilitation for patients with conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. He uses Ortho-K lenses and multifocal soft lenses in his myopia management practice.

Dr. Patel joined ClearView in 2020. He sees pediatric patients starting at age one and adult patients with low vision needs. He is available Tuesday through Saturday.

We schedule 45-minute comprehensive exams because a thorough evaluation can't be done in 15 minutes. We explain findings in plain language and show you your own images.

Eye health and visual performance are inseparable. We screen for glaucoma, diabetes-related changes, macular degeneration, and systemic conditions that often first show up in the eye.
