Comprehensive Eye Exam
A ClearView eye exam is a full check of both your vision and the health of your eyes - refraction, digital retinal imaging, glaucoma screening, and a dry-eye evaluation built for Tucson’s desert climate. Here’s exactly what to expect, and how to book.
How It Works
Request a time online or call the front desk and we’ll match you with the first opening that works - often within the same week, including Saturday mornings. New patients get a secure intake link by text and email so the paperwork is done from your couch, not a clipboard in the lobby.
We measure your visual acuity and run a precise refraction to land your exact glasses or contact-lens prescription. If your vision has shifted since your last visit - even a little - this is where we catch it and quantify it.
Digital retinal imaging, intraocular pressure (glaucoma) testing, a slit-lamp look at the front of the eye, and a dry-eye assessment. We dilate when it’s clinically indicated so we can see the retina and optic nerve in full. Many serious conditions are silent early - this is how we find them first.
Before you leave, your optometrist walks you through what we saw on the chairside screen, hands over your prescription, and - if you’d like - sends you next door to the optical boutique for frames, with same-day glasses on most single-vision scripts.

Common Questions
Plan for about 45 minutes. That covers vision and refraction testing, a full eye-health workup with digital retinal imaging and glaucoma screening, a dry-eye assessment, and a sit-down review of your results and prescription. If we dilate your eyes, add another 15–20 minutes for the drops to take effect.
Most healthy adults should come in every one to two years. We recommend annual exams for anyone over 60, for contact-lens wearers, and for patients managing diabetes, glaucoma, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease. Children should be seen yearly through the school years, since vision changes fast and can quietly affect reading and learning.
Yes - ClearView is a family practice. Dr. Patel sees children from infancy through the teen years and offers myopia-management consultations for kids whose prescriptions are climbing quickly. Booking the whole family back-to-back is welcome; just let the front desk know and we’ll block the time.
We’re in-network with VSP, EyeMed, Spectera, and MESVision, and most patients pay $0–$20 out of pocket for a routine comprehensive exam. Medically necessary visits - diabetic eye exams, glaucoma monitoring, or treatment for an ocular condition - are billed to your medical insurance instead. Call us with your member ID and we’ll verify your benefits before you arrive.
Tucson’s desert climate is dry, dusty, and often windy, which accelerates tear evaporation and irritates the eye surface - and long hours on screens make it worse by reducing how often we blink. We include a tear-film and dry-eye assessment in every comprehensive exam so we can flag it early and, if needed, start a targeted treatment plan.
We dilate when it’s clinically indicated - for a first visit, for patients with risk factors, or when we need a full view of the retina. Your vision will be blurry up close and light-sensitive for a few hours, so most patients are fine to drive with sunglasses, but bringing a driver is the safest bet if you’re unsure how you’ll react.
